Hot Time
at the 2011 Picnic
A bright, warm, summer day was the setting for the 2011 OTCC Annual Picnic. The day began early for volunteers, who set up tables and chairs under our 20' x 30' canopy. Parents and children then arrived to register for the Annual Youth Fishing Tournament sign-up. The process was quick, and it was now off to try to catch the "big one." Members and guests, many carrying a special dish, started filtering in to get started on a wonderful family event. Our local band, known as "Iron Water Band", got the music started with familiar soft and classic rock tunes. Residents Bernie Sperl and Jackie Reilly set the mood during the dinner hour with a nice blend of oldies and country tunes. Music paused for the winners of the fishing tournament to receive their applause and trophies for their morning catches. The King Richard Band, featuring member Tony Maladra, enlivened the crowd of around 180 members and guests. All the while, the feast went on and on, with burgers and dogs, Chuck Watson's smoked pulled pork, and a great variety of member-provided dishes. |
The participants
enjoyed the water, the water
trampoline, children's games, volleyball, and
horseshoes. But most of all, it was a great chance to
catch up with neighbors and friends in the lively setting
of a festive day.
Sunday morning volunteers were back on-site to finish the clean-up. By noon time it was hard to believe that a few hours earlier, the enthusiastic were dancing under the stars and a full moon. The Board of Trustees extends a hearty "Thank You" to all of the volunteers who made the day a great success. Unlike other similar organizations, we are all-volunteer, using no paid personnel. Special thanks to members Joe Gould and Phil Myers for ensuring that the bands had, for the first time in many years, a reliable source of electricity. Thanks also to the sub-committee leaders: Kristen Lorenz, Phil and Mary Beth Myers, Steve Lennon, Brian Petitt, Chuck Watson, Rachelle Bowers, and Joan Myers. Members are asked to remember to thank the folks at Murphy's Market (Tuckerton Rd.) for their generous donation of 100 hamburgers. Also, Medford Hardware for their donation of the large BBQ grill for the day. Thanks go out to the members for their cheerful participation that made the day a memorable one. |
