OLD TAUNTON COLONY CLUB
24 Hours of Taunton, August 7-8
24 Hours of Taunton is right around the corner. It is one of the coolest community adventures anywhere to be found. All teams from last year (12 of them in all) and possibly a few more, including the mighty Paddle Puppies (the kid's team) will spend 24 hours together with their neighbors, families, and friends paddling, floating, and racing on our spectacular lake. As most already know, this is a fully self-supported, grass roots, event (BYOB, BYOF), so it will be what we make of it.
The event will kick off at 5PM on Friday August 7th with the traditional sprint to the sliding board as the cow bell officially starts the paddle/race. Brian's band, the Hazardous Hazards, will hopefully be playing in the pavilion, and a small bonfire to keep us warm overnight will set the vibe. Then...we paddle!
Through the beautiful sunset sky and into the moonlit night over Taunton, we'll experience a truly unique adventure as we follow the lighted buoys to the South end of the lake and back...again and again!
The morning sunrise will greet us for a full day of paddling, "competing," and really just hanging out with an awesome group of friends. The breakfast sandwiches from Miller's Pork Roll Stand will again fuel us for the day. I’m sure we’ll have some fierce competition along with some easy paddling as the countdown to the 5 o’clock conclusion of the paddling portion of the event will begin.
Starting around 4 or 5 pm, the picnic celebration will begin as we'll fire up the grills, maybe grab a few pizzas, hopefully an oyster or two at the Sapphire Shoals Oyster Table, and present the Taunton Cup to the "winners"...all as the band, Lost Sailors, will be setting the tone for a well- deserved celebration for all, whether you were a paddler or you're just hanging out with our neighbors!
