What is the purpose of the Taunton Lake Preservation Initiative?

To preserve our quality of life on Taunton Lake.

What are the goals of the Initiative?

• Maintain the water quality of our lake.
• Maintain the natural wooded and secluded environment surrounding our lake.
• Maintain the economic value of the property located on and around our lake.

How can we reach those goals?

• By securing agreement from all owners of property on or around the lake to maintain their property in a manner that retains the natural environment, and to abide by Medford Township ordinances, deed restrictions, Colony Club bylaws and Lakefront Rules and Guidelines.
• By educating Medford Township elected and appointed government officials about the uniqueness of Taunton Lake and getting their commitment to require Taunton Lake property owners to abide by Medford Township ordinances, deed restrictions, Colony Club bylaws and Lakefront Rules and Guidelines.

What about past violations?

Over the years, there have been isolated problems associated with residents cutting down trees and clearing out natural vegetation. These incidents have been dealt with firmly by the Colony Club. Residents in violation have had to replant trees and shrubs. The Colony Club has also attended Zoning Board meetings to insist that rules be followed.

Some residents still got away with violations. So what now?

The Taunton Lake Preservation Initiative will stand up and speak out. Every variance and every exception diminishes the character of our lake, helps destroy our secluded, peaceful environment, and devalues our properties. It is time to stand firm, and the Initiative will do all it can to stop any violation that threatens our lake.
